"Her
Blue Sea Fire"
is
a collaborative performance created by
Cherie Sampson and Deanne Wortman inspired by the Finnish
epic poem, The Kalevala, comprising movement, chant, text and
sculptural installation. As performance artists coming from visual
arts backgrounds, we created a ritualistic and visually poetic
interpretation of the beautiful 'myth of origins' that opens the first
canto. There the water/air woman-spirit, Ilmatar, gives birth to
the universe with references to fertile waters, cosmogonic eggs
and the emergence of consciousness and magical language.
